The City of Tamarac, Florida has always been a retirement community.  However, in the early 1960s, the economy of Tamarac real estate was spiraling downward quickly and was in dire need of some funds.  That was when the wealthy owner of car wash chain Car-a-Mat came along.  Mr. Ken Behring bought up all of the land in the city and began to develop Tamarac real estate into the thriving community it continues to be today, naming it in honor of the business that provided him the income to breath new life into this area, Tamarac (spelling Car-a-Mat backwards).

Tamarac Education
Students residing in Tamarac real estate attend schools in the Broward County Public School System.  There are two elementary schools, one middle school and two charter schools that serve Tamarac's public school system.  There are seven private schools in Tamarac's school system to provide an alternative to public school education.

Fun things to do in Tamarac
The fabulous weather allows the residents to discover so many fun things to do in Tamarac.  For golf enthusiasts, there are three country clubs located amongst Tamarac real estate to indulge their habit: Colony West Country Club, Woodlands Country Club and Woodmont Country Club.  Colony West is actually comprised of two public courses that welcome all visitors to its partake in 18 holes of golfing fun.  Woodlands and Woodmont are both private courses.

The Tamarac Community Center is operated by the Tamarac Parks and Recreation Department.  They provide recreational programs, social services and activities like adult day trips and summer camp for all of Tamarac's citizens.

The Caporella Aquatic Center has a public pool and offers swimming lessons for all ages, water fitness classes, tennis lessons, Taekwondo, exercise classes and so much more.

In addition to the indoor activity that the community and aquatic centers provide, anyone craving fun in the wonderful outdoors can enjoy any one of the six public parks scattered throughout the city.  The Tamarac Parks & Recs Department sponsors youth leagues in football, t-ball, soccer, basketball, softball as well as adult basketball, soccer and softball for adults.

Tamarac's small-town charm is sure to entice any newcomer to set a spell and enjoy the slower paced, community involved lifestyle presented here without being bored.
