~Coconut Creek History The area of what is now known as Coconut Creek real estate was once used for farmland. The city got its name in 1956 by R. E. Bateman. Some remnants can still be seen throughout the city today. Bateman, a land developer, saw great potential for home-site real estate in the area. He began clearing just enough land for the homes, leaving as many trees as possible. In the early 1960s, Bateman teamed up with Jack Brown to build many of the early homes in Coconut Creek real estate. One of the first things they did to attract buyers was to lay out a park around Lake Julie. They brought in white sand to make a beach and built boat launches for the many anticipated boaters. Today, the park is known as Donaldson Park and is the site of the City's Community Center.
